How to Choose the Right Size Washer and Dryer in the Laundromat

Although we think some time at the laundromat can be a great day out (hey, we’ve got a TV, free Wi-Fi, arcade games, and vending machines!), we know not everyone shares our enthusiasm for laundry day.

For plenty of people, doing laundry is a chore, and they want to get in and out of the laundromat as quickly as possible. And to do this, you’ll need to know which washing machine and dryer will best suit your needs.

Choosing the right size of machine for your load plays an enormous role in how long it will take to do your laundry, so pay attention! Don’t just throw your bag of dirty clothes into the first empty machine you can find. Instead, pick the right tool for the job, and reap the rewards further down the line.

To discover how to pick the correct size machine for your laundry load, read on, and all will be explained!

How Heavy Is Your Load?

This is the key consideration when it comes to choosing your machine. Smaller washers usually have a top load limit of 13 pounds, because heavier loads won’t wash properly! As a quick side note, WaveMAX Laundry doesn’t even have top load machines. But, if your load exceeds this, head for our front load machines that begin at 20 pounds and go up to nearly 80 pounds. If your laundry bag is too heavy, split your clothes and use two machines at once to save time.

How Large Are Your Items?

Weight isn’t the only thing you should take into consideration. The size of your individual items makes a difference too. If you’re washing larger clothes—like winter coats, or things like sheets, blankets, or comforters—go for a bigger machine. This gives your load more room to move and will ensure that things wash and dry properly. It is also a sensible idea to mix and match your loads, so you don’t fill a machine with only huge articles. If you stuff a washer or a dryer full, it won’t operate efficiently, and you’ll end up doing things twice. We recommend only filling the drum up to about 75% full.

Check the Instructions

Pay careful attention to the specific instructions on the machine you want to use, as well as to any guides around the laundromat itself. You may be looking for a particular cycle or function that one washer will offer, but others might not. Picking the machine that can take care of your requirements the first time will save time in the long run.

Pay Attention to Time

Finally, it’s well worth knowing how long the cycle on each machine lasts. Once you’ve configured your cycle, the washers and dryers at WaveMAX Laundry will show you the estimated completion time before you even hit the start button. If you’re in a hurry, you might want to split your laundry into smaller bundles and wash them in multiple, smaller machines on faster cycles. It may be a little more expensive, but it will save you lots of time and ensure that your washing is done right the first time!
